Police Officer Arrested For Raping Suspect

Police in Kagadi has arrested one of their own for allegedly raping a female suspect.  

The officer has been identified as AIP George Kyuka, the officer in charge of Kyenzige Police station in Kyaterekera sub county Kagadi district.  

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Friday that Kyuka has been detained at Kagadi Central Police Station since his arrest on March 15th, 2019.

Hakiza says on March 12th, Kyuka arrested an 18-year-old woman whose names have been concealed on allegations of abandoning her one-year-old child. The woman was detained at Kyenzige Police station.  

However, on the night of March 13, 2019, the officer Kyuka went and picked the female suspect from custody and took her to his room where he allegedly raped her. He reportedly convinced the woman that he would help release her from custody.  

The female suspect on March 15, 2019, filed a rape case against the police officer leading to his arrest.According to Hakiza, Police has launched investigations into the matter as Kyuka is still being detained at Kagadi central police station. His file has already been forwarded to the resident State Attorney for perusal and sanctioning.

He says if found guilty the officer will be produced before court to be charged with rape.
