Kabale Constable Charged with Murder

Monday is wanted for shooting to death 15-year-old Ronald Taremwa and injuring 26-year-old Medard Tukwasibwe, both residents of Mutojo cell in Bushuro in Kitumba Sub County in Kabale district.

John Bosco Monday, a Police constable attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit has appeared in court for shooting dead a student of Rock High school and injured another person in Kabale.

 

He appeared on Monday before the Kabale Grade One Magistrate, Raphael Vueni where he was charged with one count of murder and attempted murder.

 

Vueni didn't allow the accused to enter any plea since his court lacks jurisdiction on capital offenses and remanded him to Ndorwa Government prisons until November 14th when his matter will come up for mention.

 

Monday is wanted for shooting to death 15-year-old Ronald Taremwa and injuring 26-year-old Medard Tukwasibwe, both residents of Mutojo cell in Bushuro in Kitumba Sub County in Kabale district.

 

The incident occurred over the weekend opposite Voice of Kigezi building in Kigongi, Central division in Kabale Municipality shortly after the suspect knocked a boda boda cyclist pitting him against residents. 

Residents demanded that the constable repairs the damaged motorcycle but he decided to go for his gun and opened fire killing the teenager and injuring Tukwasibwe who were not part of the scuffle.

 

A source at the court told URN on condition of anonymity that although the suspect was remanded, the Resident State Attorney didn't peruse through the file because of the nationwide prosecutor's strike, saying court only acted because of public pressure.

 

 

Taremwa laid to rest

 

 

 

 

The late Ronald Taremwa was laid to rest on Monday. Speaking at the funeral service, his father Dickson Kabwesi said the suspect deserves a death sentence for misusing a firearm placed in his custody. He also demanded compensation from Uganda Police Force for the death of his teenage son.

 

 

Boaz Byereta, the Local Council one chairperson Mutojo cell also said the suspect deserves a life sentence for shooting people on a very trivial matter. 

Moses Byabagye, the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations department in Kigezi Region told mourners they have concluded their investigations, adding that Justice will take its course.

 

Denis Namuwoza, the Kigezi Region Police Commander paid Shillings 5 million in condolence on behalf of the Uganda Police Force.
