Police Officer Jailed 31-years for Murder

The convict, Gideon Niwamanya, attached to Nteko Tourism Police post in Nyabwishenya Sub County- Kisoro District, shot and killed his colleague Police Gilbert Musasizi on May 17, 2013. He accused him of failing to perform his assigned duties.
High Court in Kabale has sentenced a police officer to 31 years in jail for murder.

The convict, Gideon Niwamanya, attached to Nteko Tourism Police post in Nyabwishenya Sub County- Kisoro District, shot and killed his colleague Police Gilbert Musasizi on May 17, 2013. He accused him of failing to perform his assigned duties.

Prosecution led by Kabale Resident Principal State Attorney Batson Baguma told court that Niwamanya shot the deceased accusing him of failure to perform his assigned duties.

Niwamanya, 24, pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for leniency.

Presiding Judge Moses Kawuma Kazibwe sentenced him to 31 years in prison. He said that although his crime warrants a death sentence, the convict has already spent four years in prison and did not waste court' time by pleading guilty to the charges.

Justice Kazibwe added that Niwamanya violated the trust accorded to him when he deviated from keep law and order and instead took the law in his hands.
