Police Officer On The Spot for Threatening to Shoot LC I Chairperson

Iren Mutonyi, the LC I chairperson of Ituko cell in Magale town council in Namisindwa district is accusing a police officer at Magale police station she only identifies as Wabuna of physiological torture and threatening to shoot her.

She told URN in an exclusive interview at Magale Parents high school on Wednesday that trouble between her and Wabuna started when residents recovered a six months infant and took it to her as the area leader.

According to Mutonyi, she took the baby to the nearby Magale police station where she found Wabuna on duty. Wabuna advised her to keep the baby for two more days as police searched for its biological mother, which she accepted.

She, however, says that after spending over a week without hearing from the police in Magale as promised, she decided to forward the matter to the Elgon Region Police Child Protection Unit for help. 

According to Mutonyi, this didn't go down well with the officers at Magale police station, especially Wabuna who started threatening to shoot her for reporting them to their superiors. She says that threats by the officer are giving her sleepless nights fearing for her life.

Cue out ………….’’tsalulumile busa,’’//Wabuna declined to comment on the accusations, saying that he isn't authorized to speak to the media, and referred our reporter to, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson. 

Taitika told our reporter that he was yet to receive a briefing on Mutonyi's complaint. He advised her to seek legal redress, saying that no security officer is allowed to threaten to shoot innocent civilians.

John Musila, the Bubulo east constituency member of parliament has condemned Wabuna for taking advantage of holding a firearm to threaten civilians. Musila says has offered Mutonyi a lawyer to sue Wabuna for threatening to kill her.
