Angry residents of Hoima district have hacked to death a Special Police Constable attached to Hoima Central Police station. The constable who has only been identified as Taremwa was first shot with an arrow before he was hacked to death by angry residents of KPele village Kyabisagazi parish Kigorobya Sub County Hoima district.
Taremwa was killed during a joint operation by Police, Uganda People's Defense Forces and other sister agencies against illegal immigrants in Kpele village in the wee hours of this morning. The operation was prompted by information received by the Hoima District Security Committee that a group of foreigners had invaded the area causing a security threat.
However, angry residents charged at the officers when they mistook them for thugs. As police and military personnel opened fire in the air residents picked bows and arrows and fought back hitting Taremwa in the process. After hitting Taremwa, the angry residents disarmed him and hacked him several times to death.
The residents also shot George Emoot, the Commandant of the Field Force Unit in Hoima district in the right leg. He is currently hospitalised at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Emooti told URN on his Hospital bed that they set off at 1:30am from Hoima town for the operation, which caught residents unawares prompting them to charge at them.
He says the UPDF soldiers they were with on the operation withdrew and tactically left them in the area. Emooti says he had refused to go for the operation but the Hoima District Police Commander, Twaha Etima forced him to go with him.

James Yakobo, a resident of Kpele faults the officers for invading the area at night without notifying local authorities.
He wonders why such an operation would be conducted in the wee hours of the night, saying the Security committee had other motives.
