Police Recover Gun from Latrine in Kumi

The gun, registration No. SAR UG Pol 4097-109061 belonging to JAG Security Group was picked on Monday morning after a tip off from the residents who had gone to answer nature calls in the latrine.

The Police in Kumi district have recovered a gun from a pit latrine inside the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church premises in Tank Cell, South Ward in Kumi Municipality. 

The gun, registration No. SAR UG Pol 4097-109061 belonging to JAG Security Group was picked up on Monday morning after a tip-off from the residents who had gone to answer nature's call in the latrine. 

Information in Kumi indicates that the gun was stolen from a security guard only identified as Stella Apedun, 52, while she was on night duty at Microfinance Bank in Kumi Municipality on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

The Acting East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, George William Tukei says that the gun was stolen from the security guard who had slept off from duty around 4:49 am. He notes that the gun was stolen with nine bullets. He explains that one bullet and the batt of the gun were missing by the time of recovery.

Since the gun was stolen, Apedun has been in custody at Kumi Central Police Station. The Kumi District Police Commander, Twaha Buyinza told our reporter on the phone that the investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
