Police have stormed a suspected robber’s hide
in Wanyange central village in Mafubira Sub County in Jinja district. They
managed to arrest two suspects whose identities have been withheld and recovered
two bags of marijuana and suspected stolen home appliances including music
systems, fridges, 10 boxes of bar soap, kitchenware and clothes among others.
According to the police, the group that has been operating under, “one love squad,” is believed to be behind house
break-ins and robberies in Jinja town and its’ surrounding areas of Bugembe,
Kakira and Njeru. Led by a one “Robadoba,” who is still at large, the 50
member group comprising mostly unemployed graduates and school dropouts steal
from markets, shops, bars and congested areas.
Fatumah Namuddu, a resident of the area, says the group has
instilled fear in the community as they freely move with a gun and machetes in
broad day light. He says the group also organizes unsupervised fights
where one of their members known as Batista Kinyera lost his life in October

Rukhman Guludene, the Wanyange Central Village Defense Secretary,
says local leaders have tried to talk the youths out of crime in vain. Guludene

Erick Sakwa, the Jinja Resident District Commissioner, who
led the operation, says security had singled the said house as a black spot for
criminal activities and is still hunting for the remaining suspects as most of
them fled the scene.
