Police are investigating claims that arsonists could have started the fire that gutted the boy's dormitory at Public SS Mabaale in Kagadi on Tuesday night.

Moses Kiconco Muzima, the Kagadi police commander says investigations are focusing on arson because petrol was used to burn the dormitory.

He says, they have ruled out electricity as the cause of the fire, since the dormitory had solar lights. Muzima told our reporter on Thursday morning that police discovered a bottle containing some petrol near the burnt dormitory. He says that police have already recorded statements from members of the school management.

On Tuesday student's property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in a fire that gutted the boy's dormitory at Public Secondary School in Mabaale town council, Kagadi district.

The school director, Yonna Bagonza, says that the fire broke out at around 9:00 pm when students were attending night preps. It destroyed mattresses, books, jerry cans, clothes, and money among others.

He said no casualties were reported.   Yona Bagonza suspects an arson attack because the affected dormitory has been using solar lights.

Speaking to our reporter on Thursday morning, Bagonza revealed that the Board of Governors has resolved to support the122 male students who lost their property in the fire till they complete this term.

He however, says they have launched a drive to solicit for financial assistance to mitigate the current situation because due to the effects of covid-19, the school management cannot manage to rebuild the boy’s dormitory as well as supporting students.
