Nancy Ayugi, a food vendor at the park says the garbage problem has greatly affected them since customers have chosen to eat from outside the park because of the smell of the area.
The sanitation situation of Lira bus park remains wanting, subjecting
the public to health risks arising from heaps of rotting garbage within the
drainage channels across the park.
The chocking garbage results from reckless disposal polythene containers, pieces of clothes and food
remains from hotels and restaurants into the water pathways.

Michael Ojok, a dealer of ox-ploughs at the park said all
their efforts to have a clean area has been futile since people walk in and out
of the park, disposing garbage anyhow, a habit which he says has greatly
affected his business as well.

Ojok blamed the authority of the bus park for not
reaching out to their community they leading to sensitize them about the
benefits of having a clean environment.

However, Robert Okello Ayo, the Assistant Town Clerk for Ojwina
division attributed stingy environment to little revenue collected from the
park which makes it hard to maintain the area.

Ayo advised the business community within the park to
arrange dustbins or sacks at their points of operations to enable easy
collection.

Bernard Anyeko, the chairperson Lira Urban called upon the city garbage
committee and responsible authorities to see to it that the park is kept clean.
