Presidential Candidate Mayambala Stuck in Kampala as Wakiso Waits for Him

A member of his campaign team identified as Jamal told URN that Mayambala had gone to the EC headquarters for assistance. “He doesn’t have a car and fuel and currently we are at the Electoral Commission headquarters,” Jamal who answered Mayambala’s mobile number told URN.
Independent presidential candidate, Willy Mayambala has rushed to the Electoral Commission-EC for assistance to get a car and fuel for his campaign.

Mayambala, who was scheduled to campaign in different places in Wakiso district hadn’t shown up by 1.30 pm. A member of his campaign team identified as Jamal told URN that Mayambala had gone to the EC headquarters for assistance.

“He doesn’t have a car and fuel and currently, we are at the Electoral Commission headquarters,” Jamal who answered Mayambala’s mobile number told URN. Asked whether the presidential hopeful would continue with his campaign in Wakiso as planned, Jamal said that he wasn’t certain about the program since the candidate hadn’t sorted the challenges he was facing.

Paul Bukenya, the EC Spokesperson told URN that he hadn’t seen the candidate in the Commission premises. He, however, said the premises are open for everyone seeking any information. “But the commission was clear from the very first day of nominations that it would not give out vehicles to presidential candidates to run their campaigns,” Bukenya said.

Adding that “the only vehicles the commission had for the candidates were those used by the escorts.” Mayambala started his campaigns in greater Mukono where he held mini campaign rallies in Mukono and Kayunga districts on Monday and Tuesday.
