Primary Teacher Commits Suicide in Bududa District

Daison Mukuwa the local council one chairperson Khabuku cell told our reporter that the teacher’s death has surprised them in the whole village because they did not know how this came to happen since they were with the deceased yesterday evening.

Police in Bududa district is investigating circumstances under which a 54-year-old Primary school teacher committed suicide by hanging.

Aloysius Khatondi, a teacher of Bubungi Primary school and a resident of Khabuku cell in Nangako town council was found hanging on a tree behind his home on Sunday morning.

Daison Mukuwa, the local council 1 chairperson Khabuku cell says that the teacher’s death has shocked many people in the area.

John Nangosi, one of Khotondi's neighbors said that the deceased had told him that he was having difficulties he was facing in the family ranging from accumulated debts, feeding and looking after the family following the lock down. He said he also complained of low pay which could not facilitate his family. Nangosi said they are grieved as neighbors to have lost a generous person in the Village.

David Mupuya a fellow teacher said they have lost one of the senior teachers in the district who was preparing for his retirement.

//Cue in: ’’we have lost our senior teacher…. Cue out: ……very great teacher.’’//Vincent Matanda, the Bududa district senior Education officer said they have lost a very hardworking teacher in the district. He said the same teacher has been sickly through out the year.

Elgon region Police spokesman, Rogers Taitika confirmed the incident saying a postmortem has already been carried out confirming the death was by hanging. He said investigations into the death will continue.
