Police in Luweero district are investigating private security companies for breach of the Police act and engaging in criminal acts. The investigations follow reports of robberies masterminded by guards deployed at key installations.

The Latest incident occurred on Monday when a guard deployed by safety Services (U) Limited connived with thugs to rob millions of Shillings from Dawson Fuel Station in Wobulenzi town but left their gun behind.

Luweero District Police Commander Benson Byaruhanga Mworozi explains that the Police act and Private Security Organization Regulations require all security companies to file monthly returns and account for all the arms and ammunition within their possession. He added they should also notify local police stations on deployments for close monitoring of their activities and backup in case of emergencies.

However, only one out of the ten security companies registered to operate in Luweero meets the regulations. Byaruhanga has now deployed intelligence officers to investigate all security companies and those that will fail the credibility test will be recommended for termination.

The companies' compliance with the Police Act is reviewed every year as a requirement for the renewal of their licenses to provide security services.

Paul Mukungu, the LC III Chairman of Luweero town says that they need to oversee the recruitment of guards because some are not fit to be entrusted with firearms.

Moses Ssebalamu Kayondo, the LC III Chairperson of Wobulenzi town asked Police to work with local leaders to screen the security guards because many of them are not known in the area.

Some of the Private security companies working in Luweero are SWAT, Tiger Security Company, Rock Security Company, Ultimatum Security Company Limited, Saracen, Safety Services (U) Limited and Steareact among others.

None was reachable for comment since the majority of them make deployments but have no offices in the district.
