Jostling for leadership positions has split the Democratic Party-DP leadership in Entebbe municipality.

Several DP leaders in Entebbe municipality including the including the party chairperson, Vincent Kayanja De Paul, the Entebbe Division B Chairperson, Stanley Namayilira and the Entebbe MP aspirant, Michael Kakembo have already declared intentions to vie for various party positions.

For instance, Namayilira has already declared his intention to contest for the Entebbe Mayoral seat currently held by the Municipal DP Chairperson, Vincent Kayanja. Kayanja also nurses ambition to contest for the Entebbe Mayoral seat in the forthcoming decision, a plan also held by Michael Kakembo, the constituency chairperson.

The party leadership is also divided on whether or not to readmit the former Entebbe Municipality Member of parliament, Mohammad Kawuma to the party after his departure in 2016. Kawuma joined the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party.

Stanley Namayilira, the Division B Chairperson, says there is no need to block anyone from contesting for the different leadership positions, saying this will contravene democratic principles.
