Rakai Father Arrested for Strangling Own Daughter

Police preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect strangled the minor after a misunderstanding with his wife Faridah Nantongo. He had reportedly asked the mother not to breastfeed the baby.
Police in Rakai district is holding a 35-year-old man for allegedly strangling a one-week-old baby to death. Joseph Basiima a resident of Lwabanda zone, in Ddwaniro Sub County reportedly suspected that his wife had sired the baby outside wedlock.

Police preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect strangled the minor after a misunderstanding with his wife Faridah Nantongo. He had reportedly asked the mother not to breastfeed the baby.

Tom Yiga, the Sub County Chairperson says he received a tip-off from suspicious neighbours on the whereabouts of the baby and reported the matter to Ddwaniro police station. Later, the wife revealed that his husband had killed the baby and buried the body in their garden.

Lameck Kigozi, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, says that police recovered the body from the garden and took it to the hospital for postmortem. Kigozi advised couples to use the police family and child protection unit to solve misunderstandings instead of inflicting harm.

The incident comes barely a month after another woman was arrested in Kyotera district for poisoning her two-year-old daughter to death.
