Fire has gutted a house in Rakai district killing one person and injuring three others.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Lwankoni A village in Lwankoni sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Kenny Lugaaju, 28. His father Evalisto Mulumba, says they still do not know what caused the fire.

He explains that they were sleeping when they heard the children screaming only to realise the house was covered in smoke and fire.

He says that they made an alarm that attracted their neighbours who ran to their rescue.

Mulumba says that rescuers managed to pull out three children but could not save Lugaaju who had already died and his body charred in the inferno.

George William Ssemanda, the Lwankoni LC III Chairperson attributes the incident to an electrical surge and cautions residents to be careful to avoid similar incidents.
