In memory of Karambuzi, Museveni built a 32 roomed commercial building in Kabale Municipality along Kabale – Katuna road to support his family. However, Karambuzi sisters accuse their younger brother Happy Karambuzi of using the building alone.
Godfrey Nyakahuma, Kabale Resident District Commissioner has
intervened in wrangles between family members of the late James Karambuzi, a
former Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) war hero.
The late James Karambuzi, a resident of Igabiro village in
Mwanjari ward Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, together with David
Kagoro Kangire, a resident of Kasoni village, Central ward, Mparo Town Council
Rukiga district and Joseph Bitwari former Kabale District Commissioner were executed
on February 10, 1973, on the orders of the former president, Idi Amin Dada
after being charged with treason.
They were executed by firing
squad commanded by one Lieutenant Colonel Fadhul who was attached to Makenke
Military Barracks in Mbarara District.
In memory of Karambuzi, Museveni built a 32 roomed commercial
building in Kabale Municipality along Kabale – Katuna road to support his
family. However, Karambuzi sisters accuse their younger brother Happy Karambuzi
of using the building alone.
Karambuzi’s elder sister, Constance Akankwasa, says that their brother also
received a truck, which he uses alone and repeatedly turns down their request
for financial assistance.
On Friday, Nyakahuma invited both parties in his office for a
meeting that lasted four hours.
Nyakahuma says that he intervened in the matter on orders of the
President. Nyakahuma said that both parties reached a consensus to have the
complex not shared but ownership transferred from Happy Karambuzi into all
children of the late James Karambuzi who are still alive.
According to Nyakahuma, both parties have agreed to share profits
generated from the house in form of rent as a family. They have agreed that
grandchildren of the deceased James Karambuzi’s children get 30 percent of the
profits while 70 percent will be shared by Happy Karambuzi, Akankwasa, and
Kenyangye.

Nyakahuma also says that the parties have agreed to open a joint
account bank in Centenary bank where rent collected from the complex will be
saved until the time of sharing and to make Constance Akankwasa the principal
signatory.
Akankwasa and Kenyangye also agreed to withdraw the
court case. Nyakahuma also explains that they also agreed that Happy
Karambuzi takes full control of the tipper lorry but will first use some of the
profits generated to pay the lawyers of Akankwasa and Kenyangye. He says that
the agreement will be effected on January 1, 2022.
