Resident District Commissioner Fred Bamwine has tasked the Nakaseke Central
Member of Parliament Allan Mayanja Ssebunnya to call off parallel NRM Day
celebrations.
The national
event will be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, under the theme:
“Celebrating the 36th NRM victory day, a call to duty for all compatriots to
continue towards Uganda’s Social Economic Transformation Journey.
Last week, Ssebunnya
a member of the National Unity Platform-NUP party circulated leaflets
indicating that he will organize an event to pray for the souls of all those
who died during the NRA bush war from 1981-to 1986. Ssebunnya also said that
during the event, victims of last year’s election violence will be remembered.
But Bamwine
says that the event will not be sanctioned when there is an ongoing national event.
According to
Bamwine, although districts can organize the NRM celebrations, based on the
guidelines, any related events can only be allowed when the
national event has ended.

Bamwine also
says that the organizers of the event have not sought permission
from the police.

According to
Bamwine, since the prayers will be held at a national monument, Ssebunnya should
first seek permission from the Director of the National Archives.

Ssebunnya says
that he will go ahead with the event. He adds that he wrote to the Police informing
them about the event.
