The Ministry of Works and Transport has started the rehabilitation of roads in Bunambutye Resettlement camp.

The government procured the land in 2019 after a landslide hit Nametse in Bududa district leaving over 80 people dead. The land which measures over 1000 acres was given to people living in disaster-risk areas from Bududa, Manafwa, Namisindwa, Sironko and Bulambuli in phases.  However, the roads leading to the camp are in a poor state.

The road is unmotorable because of the heavy rains, which pound the district.

According to George Mitiga, an Engineer in the Ministry of Works, they are working with Bulambuli district local government to ensure that the road network is improved to enable people who are in the area and those who are planning to relocate to access the camp without hindrance.

The LCV Chairperson Bulambuli Annet Nandudu says the journey to the camp takes more than five hours because of the poor roads and the steep terrain.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja said that the government had allocated 50 billion Shillings for the relocation of households to the Bunambutye government resettlement area because the government is planning to buy more land for them.

She says that for those who do not want to go to Bunambutye, the government will give them money and buy at their own choice.
