The relatives of eight suspects charged for the alleged murder of
former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi have protested the delayed
hearing of their bail application.
The suspects; Bruhan Balyejusa alias Jimmy Masiga Ogutu, Joshua Magezi
Kyambadde alias Abdu Rahman, Jibril Kalyango alias Abu Aisha, Yusuf Siraje
Nyanzi alias Jimmy Ssentamu and Shafik Kasujja.
The group had appeared before Justice Lydia Mugambe of the International Crimes
Division of High Court to update her on how far they have gone with fulfilling
the bail conditions put on them. However, the Judge and the prosecution were
also not in court.
The Clerk to Justice Mugambe told the relatives and the suspects’ lawyers
that the judge is away attending a workshop. She told them to return to court
on August 1st 2019.
This prompted the relatives of the suspects to complain arguing that ever since
the suspects were granted bail in March, the process to fulfil the conditions
has dragged on.
The terms included prosecution verifying whether the suspects have valid
National Identification Cards and verifying their residential addresses.
Wedda Yazid of the relatives notes that they have started selling part of their
property for transport to court.

The lawyer of the suspects, Geoffrey Turyamusiima is still hopeful
that there will be justice despite all the delays.
