Last year, the then Abongomola Sub County councillors resolved that the new Sub County headquarters of Akali be constructed in Abwong parish, on land given by the former Sub County Chairman Willy Alepo Acel.
Disagreements have emerged between local leaders and residents of
Akali Sub County in Kwania district over the proposed site for the
construction of the sub-county headquarters.
Akali was carved from Abongomola Sub County became
operational on July 1, 2020.
Last year, the then Abongomola Sub County councillors resolved
that the new Sub County headquarters of Akali be constructed in Abwong parish,
on land given by the former Sub County Chairman Willy Alepo Acel.
However, residents are protesting the location of the sub-county
to Telela in Akali on grounds that it is not strategic to serve the residents.
Molly Atim, a resident of Aderolongo Village in Aderolongo parish,
says that Telela which is the proposed sub-county headquarters of Akali is more
than 10 kilometres away from other parishes. She accused the new Sub County
Chairperson of defying the council resolution for selfish interest.

Vincent Otile, the LCII Chairperson Abwong parish, says that the
new site is too close to Akalo Sub County that may affect revenue collection.
He argues that the chairman has taken the Sub County site to his
residence, warning to take drastic action on the matter.

Akali Sub County Speaker James Okwera says the move to reallocate the sub-county
headquarters is not known to him. He however noted that the council will
convene next week and discuss the location of the Sub County headquarters.

Godfrey Otucu, the Akali Sub County Chairperson denied the
allegation of taking the sub-county headquarters to his residence. He says it
is the council that has the decision on where the headquarters should be
Akali is part of the five new administrative units created in Kwania. The government
recently approved the creation of 364 sub-counties, 352 town councils and 10
cities in different parts of the country.
In Kwania, three sub-counties that include Akali, Atongtidi, Ayabi
and two town councils of Inomo and Ayabi were created.
