Rubirizi Security Committee has increased its security presence along the Closed Katunguru Bridge.

Captain Yahaya Kakoza, the Rubirizi  Resident District Commissioner Commissioner says last year during the Covid-19 lockdown when the bridge was closed, a lot of things involving security were experienced and they won't leave any loopholes this time.

He says the increased but slow movement of people along the river who have to wait for the ferry exposes Rubirizi district to uncertainties that security won't ignore.

The RDC says UNRA has has noticed some security lapses on the bridge.

UNRA at the start of March for the second time temporary closed Kazinga Channel Bridge on the Katunguru-Ishaka Road to complete repairs.

The repairs on the bridge started in June last year and were expected to be complete by September. However, they were not completed and the bridge was temporarily re-opened in October last year after the ferry broke down.

While closing the bridge UNRA said the repairs were to last 50 days from March 14th, 2022.
