Article 108 A (1) of the Constitution of Uganda provides that there shall be a Prime Minister who shall be appointed by the President with approval of Parliament by simple majority from among Members of Parliament or Persons qualified to be elected members of Parliament.

On Friday last week, the Kinkizi West MP and NRM Party Secretary General Amama Mbabazi was dropped by President Yoweri Museveni as Prime Minister.

In the same communication President Museveni appointed Health Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda as Uganda's new Prime Minister with immediate effect.

This was highlighted in the President's letter dated Thursday, September 18th to the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on his appointment of Rugunda as the new Prime Minister and asking the Speaker to organize for his vetting into the office.

In the letter, the President thanked Mbabazi for his service to the Country.
