Running Waters Sweep Away Nursery Pupil

According to Evas Ayebare, the head teacher of Kanyankwanzi Primary School, the incident occurred at around 6:00 PM during a heavy downpour that began at approximately 4:00 PM and lasted for about four hours.

A nursery pupil was swept away by fast-flowing waters in Kabale district on Wednesday evening. The minor has been identified as Pearl Amumpeire, a pupil at Kanyankwanzi Primary School in Bukora Parish, Kitumba Sub County. She was the daughter of David Twinomujuni Bariyanga.

According to Evas Ayebare, the head teacher of Kanyankwanzi Primary School, the incident occurred at around 6:00 PM during a heavy downpour that began at approximately 4:00 PM and lasted for about four hours. Ayebare explained that the incident happened when the victim was at home. 

She added that the victim's sister, Favor Ampeire, was fortunate to be rescued by vigilant residents who acted swiftly. Davis Muhereza, the Kitumba Sub County LC3 chairman told our reporter this morning that there were grim prospects of finding the minor alive. 

Muhereza also noted that the torrential waters had wreaked havoc on several crop gardens in the villages of Kanyankwanzi, Kizorera, and Nyakato.

In a related incident on September 10, 2023, torrential rains led to running waters causing devastation in Nshanjare town council in the neighboring Rubanda district.

The two-hour-long rains resulted in injuries to about three people and the loss of property and destruction of shops, houses, and household items, for 22 others.
