Salaf Sect Camps Set Ablaze in Namayingo and Mayuge Districts

Girigiri and Walobe camps were home to Ali Kabambe alias Munakenya and his family and Musa Donkyu respectively who were picked by police in connection to the Busoga murders.
Unidentified people have set ablaze two camps belonging to Salaf Muslims in Mayuge and Namayingo districts. Both camps had Mosques, schools and grass thatched huts. According to Police, the Girigiri camp in Mayuge was burnt on Thursday night while the Walobe camp in Namayingo went down on Friday morning

Girigiri and Walobe camps were home to Ali Kabambe alias Munakenya and his family and Musa Donkyu respectively who were picked by police in connection to the Busoga murders. Munakenya is believed to be a trained assassin of the Allied Democratic Front, while Donkyu has reportedly confessed to being the ADF surveillance expert in Uganda.

Police is yet to establish the people behind the attack on both camps and their intentions. Grace Akullo, the Director Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate-CIID has confirmed the development but declined not divulge details for fear of compromising their investigations.

However, a source familiar with investigations in Jinja told URN that police is looking at two angles of investigation into the fire. He said the first angle is of the relatives of the people who were murdered by the suspects in custody while the other angle is of the families of the suspects who could have burnt down the places to conceal evidence.

Preliminary police finding reveal that no person was at the camps at the time of the fires and all the properties had already been taken away from the camps. Most residents of the camps left their homes when the suspects were picked up from their house and the camps raided by police in search of weapons and other evidence that can be used against Munakenya and Donkyu.
