This is the first time Uganda is playing in the finals of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations. The team automatically qualified for the finals automatically after Uganda's qualifying opponents, Ghana withdrew from the tournament.
The Uganda National Beach Soccer team; Sand Cranes will be playing
hosts Senegal today, May 23, in the Afcon Beach Soccer Opener in Senegal. The team had their last training on Friday in Senegal.
This is the first time Uganda is playing in the finals of
the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations. The team automatically qualified for the finals
automatically after Uganda's qualifying opponents, Ghana withdrew from the
tournament. They were then drawn in Group A
alongside hosts Senegal, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC. However, DRC however withdrew from the tournament leaving three teams in the group.
The Ugandan team spent more than a week in
a residential Camp at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru before their departure to Senegal. Sand Cranes head coach Salim Muwonge said the team is in
good shape to face Senegal, and that the technical team has already
made defensive and attacking combinations to help them sail past the hosts.

Team Captain Meddie Kibirige said that the weather has given them a favourable situation
to prepare for the maiden appearance in the tournament.

The 2020 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations will
be the fourth edition of the premier
beach soccer championship
in
Africa contested
by men's national teams who are members of the
Confederation of African Football. Both finalists will secure their tickets to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, Russia 2021.
