School Director in Luuka Arrested For Defying Presidential Directive

Wanume was teaching Primary Seven pupils whereas five other teachers who fled the scene were interacting with different pupils and their parents within the school compound.
Police in Luuka district has arrested Farouk Wanume, the director of Adonia Primary School for conducting lessons contrary to the presidential directive of closing down schools.

Wanume was teaching Primary Seven pupils whereas five other teachers who fled the scene were interacting with different pupils and their parents within the school compound.

Wanume in his statement claims that the pupils had come along with their parents to clear first term school dues.

“We were not teaching as such, but the parents together with their children had come to clear pending school fees balances as we are unaware of what the future holds for us amidst the increasing cases of the COVID-19 infections in the country,” reads his statement in part.

John Sserunjogi, the Luuka District Police Commander says that members of the school’s management committee tipped off police officers about Wanume’s actions prompting his arrest.

Sserunjogi adds that the suspect has been detained at Luuka central police station awaiting prosecution.
