Police in Apac is holding three people over the alleged misappropriation of over shs 21million allocated to facilitate a school solar project under Northern Uganda Social Action Fund- NUSAF-II.
The arrested include, Ogali Darius Atigo, the Deputy Head Teacher of Awila Primary School, in Akokoro Sub County, Otile Polino, the Chairman of the School Procurement Committee and Adoc Joyce, the Committee Treasurer.
They were arrested after an anti-corruption meeting convened to probe circumstances under which the school solar system was procured without following procedures outlined in the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) Act.
The defiance resulted into the procurement of a substandard solar system, reported to be too weak to power even a single computer. It cannot also provide light beyond midnight.
The meeting was organized by the Apac Anti-Corruption Coalition (TAACC) to review procurements by Awila Primary School, mismanagement of UPE funds and alleged embezzlement of community Driven Development Fund (CDD) for the year 2013/2014 in Akokoro Sub County.
Apac Resident District Commissioner John Robert Omuut ordered for the arrest basing on glaring evidence that regulations were flouted and taxpayer\'s money lost in the procurements.
â€œI am ordering the O.C Station of Apac CPS Mr. Chemutai Khalfan, to detain the deputy head teacher of Awila Primary school Mr. Ogali Darius Atigo and the two members of so that it help at the investigation over the loss of fundsâ€ The RDC directed.
Chemutai Khalfan, the OC station Apac said that the trio will be investigated for fraud, theft and abuse of office.
