Two Dead, Scores Trapped As Building Collapses in Jinja

Two person have died and scores trapped after a two storied building under construction collapsed along Madhivani road in Jinja municipality.

The building collapsed at around 5:45 pm. It is believed that there were more than 45 workers on site.

Anthony Mulimi, a porter at the site says that the building collapsed on the left side and 11 of his colleagues are still trapped inside.

"The building has four departments with a minimum of 12 employees each but I was on the left side with 11 others who are still trapped inside," he says.

Susan Mudeebo, a food vendor says that she had come to demand for her money from the workers when she saw the building collapsing.

"I served 35 people today and had come to collect my money, but before I could cross the road, the building collapsed and I just fled to save my life," she says.

Augustine Musisi another employee says that their site engineer died last week and they were operating without a supervisor.

By the time of filing this report, voices of people wailing could be heard in the rubble. 

The police and well-wishers were also struggling to search for survivors.

11 workers have been rushed to Jinja regional referral hospital for treatment.
