An irate mob of residents in Nakaseke district has killed
another man after being accused of stealing a goat.
The deceased has been identified as Amos Afaayo, a resident of
Busunju in Mityana district.
He was found carrying a sack but locals were suspicious.
After being tasked to explain the contents, he lied to them
that he was carrying Irish potatoes and beans, but the residents remain
suspicious. They decided to check only to find that he was ferrying
goat’s meat.
As a result, an alarm was raised, attracting many who then
pounced on him and beat him to death.

The police crime report which was
released recently showed that Nakaseke’s neighboring district of Luwero was
ranked first in registering mob justice cases after documenting 21 people who were killed by mob action in 2021.
Erastus Kibirango, the Luwero district LC V Chairman
said that Police have failed to restrain people from mob justice because their
efforts to ask Police and Courts to conduct speedy trials, especially in cases
involving animal thefts have yielded nothing.
