Second Rukungiri Shooting Victim Succumbs To Injuries

A security guard Daniel Dokuze, the a second shooting victim that occurred at For God Electronics in Rukungiri town, Rukungiri district on Tuesday night has died.  

The 29-year old Dokuze attached to Saracen Security company Limited who was on night duty at God Electronics was shot and injured by three gunmen at around 8:00 pm. The gunmen also gained access inside the electronics shop and made off with about shillings 50 million.  

While retreating from their mission, the robbers shot and killed Edward Tayebwa 19, a resident of Bunura Cell in Rwakabengo Ward in Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality.  

Police responded swiftly and arrested one of the suspects identified as Dominic Twinomugisha 19, a resident of Katete cell in Mbarara City. Police also recovered a firearm registration number UGPOL 56582399632575 with 10 rounds of ammunition from Twinomugisha, whileDokuze was rushed to Nyakibale hospital for treatment.

But, Elly Maate, Police spokesperson for Kigezi region told our reporter on Saturday morning that Dokuze succumbed to injuries on Friday night at around 10:00 PM.  Maate says that efforts to trace more suspects are still ongoing. 

The case is registered at Rukungiri Police Station under file number CRB 1437/2021.   Steven Bewayo Nsubuga, Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner says that Twinomugisha has also been on the wanted list of prime suspects behind the shooting to death of Corporal Richard Agaba, officer in Charge of Ruharo Police station in Mbarara city. Agaba was shot dead last month by armed assailants while on patrol in Ruharo, and his gun was taken away.  

Nsubuga also says that on interrogation, Twinomugisha has testified that he was once a private security personnel in Ibanda, Mbarara, and Kampala and has always been hired to operate armed robbery missions.
