The joint security forces on Saturday recovered three guns
from the Karamojong warriors during the cultural festival in Karenga district.
The security forces who were deployed in Napeikoroi grounds received intelligence about the suspected warriors
possessing illegal firearms. They responded swiftly and recovered two submachine guns number K53 (01 rounds) and
NK6899 (09 rounds) from Peter Lomojong and John Lokori
respectively.
The two guns were recovered from Lokoroi village,
Nauyagum parish in Kawanakol Sub-county in Karenga district where both suspects
hail from.
Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd Division Spokesperson
said that another light machine gun PKM No.M80 24116
with 19 live rounds of ammunition was recovered in Kaabong district following an
operation led by Lieutenant Colonel Gaston Mugarura.
The recovery was after forces of the Lodwa military detachment
while on foot patrol intercepted a group linked to the notorious Isa's group.
He said that the gun belonged to Lokalany Apanangula, a
resident of Lodwa village in the Kaabong East sub-county.
Oware noted that Lokalany who is on the run has been
terrorizing Kaabong East, Mutunan gold mining area in Timu Sub-county (Ik) and
stealing livestock in Kotido district and Turkana County in Kenya.
Oware noted that the same criminal elements would also use
the western flank between Kaabong and Karenga districts, and engage in poaching
and robbery activities.
Oware stated that the joint security forces will remain committed
to conducting disarmament operations, ensuring territorial integrity, and
maintaining close collaboration with all stakeholders towards total
pacification of the Karamoja Sub-region.
"We as security believe that with the recovery of the
PKM gun, much sanity will be restored in Kaabong district and other criminals
surrender guns. We wish to congratulate the forces and our best allies -the peace-loving
people upon this exemplary performance" Oware reiterated.
