Two guns forcefully recovered from the Karamojong warriors
Joint security forces have recovered three guns from Karamojong warriors in Kotido and Kaabong districts.
Two guns were recovered on Saturday after the
security forces impounded cows from the Lodiko community kraal in the Kaabong
district.
According to security, they impounded 37 heads of cattle
from Lodiko community kraal following their intelligence that the guns were
used for raiding the five cows from Kotido district last week.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson,
said that the two guns belong to Lokiru Longole, a resident of Lomuto village,
and Apus, who hails from Nawuyakali village, all in the Lodiko sub-county.
Longole said that all the two suspects are still at large
and the hunt for them has commenced.
Longole said that they also managed to recover another gun
from Napie village in Maru Sub County, Kotido district.
Longole said that the gun was recovered from 45-year-old
Apalomie Muria Lokong through the intelligence-led cordon and search operation
that was conducted in the area.
Longole urged the community to cooperate with security
forces as they intensified the operations to get rid of guns from the hideouts.
"We continue re-energizing our effort and commitment to
get rid of illegal guns in Karamoja," Longole said.
In a related development, joint security forces impounded
a motor vehicle registration number UBC 002 A Toyota Pro box while transporting illicit gin in the Nakapiripirit district.
Longole noted that the vehicle used for transporting 56 jerricans
of waragi was intercepted by personnel manning Atari checkpoint along Muyembe
- Namalu road.
Longole noted that the illicit gin belongs to Mark Okwii, a
resident of the Namalu sub-county in Nakapiripirit district.
He says the police have commenced inquiries into the matter
and the perpetrators will be brought to book.
