The proposed works on a security road by the Works and Defense Ministries in Bukwo district have stalled for years.

The 21 kilometer road stretch starts from Riwo Sub County that borders West Pokot through Kaptererwo Sub County in the greater Kabei Sub County.

The two ministries pledged to work on the road in 2011 to combat insecurity and improve access to West Pokot in Kenya.

Michael Chebet, the Bukwo District LC V Chairperson, says the road works stalled without explanation both ministries.

He says MB Company, which was contracted to work on the road has since abandoned the site.

He told URN that there is a lot of anxiety among residents since the road has not lived to serve its intended purpose. While residents can maneuver through the road during the dry season at high transport costs, it's impassable during the rainy season.

Gabriel Richard Atama, the Bukwo Chief Administrative Office, says he is yet to inquiry into the stalled road works since he is only four months old in the district.

Attempts by our reporter to get a comment from the Works Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Waiswa Bageya were futile as the officer in charge of the official telephone declined to give URN audience.
