Members of Parliament from Serere County have made another call for detailed investigations and report into the motor accident that left Serere County MP, Patrick Okabe and his wife, Christine Okabe dead.

The MPs re- echoed the calls on Saturday during the burial of the couple in Oburin Cell, Ochapa Town Council in Serere district. The Kasilo County MP, Elijah Okupa said that there are several unanswered questions from the family, the people of Serere and the leaders in relation to the Monday accident.

“When you look at photos, it appears the crash was intended for the MP," Okupa said before adding that the couple lost unspecified amount of money including dollars in the car.

“Bishop Okabe and his wife were supposed to travel to the USA to join their daughters before joining the sons in Australia. The family believes that the couple had carried some valuables including cash of approximately UGX. 70 million but no one has so far spoken out about these items. We need a detailed report from the Police on this accident," Okupa said before handing the mic to his colleague, Hellen Adoa.

This is the third time Okupa is demanding for the detailed report on the accident. He first raised the concern during plenary special sitting at Parliament on Thursday to pay tribute to Okabe and repeated it on Friday during the siting on the budget framework paper presentation.

Hellen Adoa Abeku, the Serere Woman MP said that besides the detailed report, the government should provide special training for the drivers of the MPs. Adoa says that the MPs are living on the mercies of God, given the kind of drivers employed.

Other MPs have raised similar concerns on the floor of Parliament. On Friday, Nathan Itungo, the Kashari South MP had asked for a detailed report before the burial of the MP on Saturday.

The Police Traffic and Road Safety report released on Monday after the crash indicated that the accident was caused by an over speeding Kenyan Isuzu box body vehicle driven a person yet to be identified.

While addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday, Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport revealed that 360 accidents had been registered in only eight days, claiming 83 lives that included Okabe and his wife.

Katumba said that his Ministry and the Uganda Police Force would provide a detailed report after investigations into the accidents on the roads.
