They were arrested on Thursday during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police, UPDF soldiers, and other sister security agencies in Kagadi. They were found hiding at a service point bar and lodge situated in Muhorro town council.

Upon arrest, the security operatives recovered an AK47 riffle registration number UGPOLZ7514807408 and one magazine with 4 rounds of ammunition from the thugs. The thugs were also found with three pairs of army uniforms and three army jackets.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says, the intelligence-led operation followed a spate of armed robberies on businessmen in Kagadi district and the surrounding areas.

He said the robbers were being commanded by Private Kato who was attached to the Mountain Division battalion in Fort Portal city.

Lilian Ruteraho, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner-RDC says the operation is still tasking the public to cooperate with security in order to curtail the rampant robbery cases in the district.

Kagadi district has witnessed a series of robbery attacks on the business community, the most recent one being last week in Mabaale town council where armed thugs raided Kyotera B cell in Mabaale town council in Kagadi district and robbed Shamilla Nakawesi, who operates a motorcycle shop of an unspecified amount of money. The gunmen waylaid Nakawesi as she was returning home from her shop.

They emerged from a nearby bush and put her at gunpoint. The thugs then ordered Nakawesi to surrender all the money she had to them.

In the process, Nakawesi handed over her bag containing an unspecified amount of money to the robbers.
