Several people were injured in a road accident that occurred on Amber Court Road, Jinja City, on Monday afternoon. The accident involved a taxi, registration number UBP 527A, and a trailer, registration number KDC 648V/ZH 2812. Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction towards Busia when the incident happened.
According to eyewitnesses, the taxi attempted to overtake the trailer by squeezing into its lane, resulting in a collision. The taxi driver sustained injuries and is currently missing or unaccounted for. The trailer driver, Adam Abdallah, aged 45, was not injured.
Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, confirmed the incident, stating that the taxi had 12 passengers on board. Ten passengers were rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Among the injured were two students from Happy Times Entebbe, identified as Caro Nakyide (17) and Aziz Sinda (23), two Burundian citizens, Eric and Felix Nsadaria, and two Kenyans, Patric Mwayi and Mariam Aduoyi. Other injured Ugandans included Brian Bazira.
Mubi urged drivers using the Trans-Africa Highway to exercise caution and follow road signs, especially with increased traffic expected due to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in Busia on October 9. He warned that traffic officers are on high alert to arrest any offenders.
