Police in Iganga district has mounted a search for commercial sex workers suspected of stabbing to death an unidentified man. The incident occurred at Shooter’s pub along Iganga Main Street on Sunday night.

The deceased, whose lifeless was body was retrieved from one of the lodging rooms at the pub, had stab wounds on the chest and forehead. The body is lying at Iganga general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and further inquiries.

A Waitress at the Pub, who spoke on condition of anonymity, says that the deceased was seen sharing alcohol with six sex workers attached to the pub before the incident.

“The man came in as one of our usual customers and we served him alcohol but after a few minutes, he was joined by some of the sex workers who normally sit outside this pub. All seemed well and at around, 8:00 PM, he left with some of them for the lodging room,” she said.

She said the sex workers could have stabbed the deceased for failure to pay them.

“Although we had never recorded a fatal case before, sex workers are known for ganging up against men who fail to fulfil their part of the bargain. They normally mobilize themselves to beat up the men. Even if we are not completely sure of what transpired, this man might have fallen victim after failing to clear his dues,” she said.

The Busoga East Region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi confirms the incident, adding that the prime suspects have since fled into hiding. He says efforts to track them have already started.
