The elite Special Forces Command (SFC) has warned Ugandans against blocking President Museveni’s motorcade, cautioning that those involved will face serious legal consequences.
The warning follows the arrest of 14 people by SFC three days ago for obstructing Museveni’s convoy and removing the National Emblem from his car in Kansanga, Kampala, as he traveled to Entebbe State House.
SFC spokesperson Maj. Jimmy Omara urged the public to refrain from interfering with the presidential convoy. “We would like to warn members of the public against obstructing the President’s motorcade. Anyone caught in such acts will face serious legal action in the courts of law,” Maj. Omara said.
According to senior security sources, the suspects had concealed themselves at a Rubis petrol station in Kansanga, while others posed as pedestrians. “At around 11:30 a.m., they suddenly blocked the President’s convoy, causing a tense situation,” a security source revealed.
The arrested suspects include Janet Nabukyu, Shafiq Lumu, Joshua Kalema, Sharif Nsubuga, Tom Kayanja, John Mawejje, Jimmy Katumba, Robben Holiday, and Annet Nanfuka Namugerwa. Others are Jennifer Mukisa, Kato Kimbugwe, Elidad Nakabugo, Gladys Nasolo, William Kamala, and Sharif Mutebi.
Their case has been recorded under traffic offense reference TSD 16/10/02/2025. A separate case, CRB 170/2025, has been opened for those accused of removing the National Emblem from the President’s vehicle, which authorities have classified as malicious damage.
Incidents of civilians blocking Museveni’s motorcade are not new. In the past, members of the now-defunct Bodaboda 2010 group, led by their patron Abdullah Kitata, engaged in similar actions, particularly when police conducted operations targeting criminal elements in the boda boda industry. Following this, Museveni directed the SFC and police to prevent such disruptions.
