She Cranes player Hanisha Muhameed has joined Bartercard Surrey Storm Netball Club in the United Kingdom’s Super League.   The club announced Muhameed on their official website on Thursday evening.

Muhameed’s move comes barely a month since the Cranes finished the overall best team in Africa at the just concluded Netball World Cup.

While the duration of her contract remains confidential, Muhameed, primarily recognized as a dynamic goal shooter but equally proficient as a goalkeeper, makes her way to the UK following an impressive tenure with the local Netball Super League club, KCCA, after her departure from UCU as a student.

“I am super excited to join Surrey Storm. It's a fantastic opportunity for me to play at a very high level and I'm looking forward to working extremely hard on and off the court.” Hanisha Muhameed briefly stated as quoted on the club website.

Speaking to the club website, Team Head Coach Mikki Austin said the club was impressed by Hanisha’s performance at the World Cup and they hope she will bring her hard work to the club.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Hanisha to Surrey Storm in 2024. A tenacious Ugandan She Crane, who showed her prowess at the Netball World Cup this summer.” Mikki said.

“Hanisha will bring a dogged tenacity and ball-winning ability to our defensive end which we look forward to working with and integrating into the Netball Super League here in the UK.” the coach added.

Muhameed now joins a growing contingent of Ugandan netball talents who have made the leap to professional netball in the United Kingdom. Among them is Peace Proscovia, a fellow She Crane, who also dons the Bartercard Surrey Storm uniform.

Additionally, Mary Cholhok Nuba plies her trade with the Loughborough Lightning Netball Club, while Stellah Oyella represents the Strathclyde Sirens Netball Club in Scotland.

Meanwhile, sources suggest that Muhameed is just one of several She Cranes stars who have garnered interest from professional clubs outside Uganda.

Negotiations are reportedly ongoing for more players to make the leap to the professional ranks, further solidifying Uganda's presence in international netball.
