The She Maroons women football club - WFC have earned themselves
the 2020/2021 FUFA women elite league title, after defeating Rhiness SSS WFC 1-0 during their final game played at the Njeru based FUFA technical center today.
Millicent Namawembe, who was also the season's top scorer with six goals netted the lone goal in the 80th
minute during the game.
The goal scorer told journalists that they won the trophy because they prepared well and worked hard. “Prior to this league, we trained for close to nine months. We surely deserved this win,” says Namawembe.
The She Maroon’s head coach, Alex Olowo says that they have set
their target at performing well in the 2021/2022 Women's Super League.
“After
excelling in the Elite league, our focus has now shifted to the FUFA women
super league and since we have faced off with some of teams, our technical team
will ensure that get more experienced players who will effectively
compete in the top tier league,” added Olowo.
Meanwhile, Rhiness’s team captain, Elsie Najjemba who was voted the best goalkeeper says that their main target was to qualify
for the top tier women league and they have surely achieved it. “We are not
heartbroken after failing to lift the elite league crown but we are happy to qualify for the top tier," added Najjemba.
