Six Arrested over Embezzlement of YLP Funds

In Apac, three members are accused of allegedly misappropriating over eight million shillings that was meant to finance their association’s projects. They are Francis Acabai, the chairperson of Ibuje Ginnery Youth Association, Gloria Akullo, the secretary, Joan Tino, the treasurer among others.
Police in Apac and Kwania District have arrested six leaders of two youth groups over alleged mismanagement of Youth Livelihood Funds.

In Apac, three members are accused of allegedly misappropriating over eight million shillings that was meant to finance the association’s projects. They are Francis Acabai, the chairperson of Ibuje Ginnery Youth Association, Gloria Akullo, the secretary and Joan Tino, the treasurer among others.

The money was meant to finance the procurement of a grinding mill for the group.

 

Lydia Ojok, the Apac District YLP focal person says that some group members who did not receive the money stormed her office demanding for immediate intervention.

In Kwania district, two suspects are also in police custody for allegedly mismanaging about four million shillings meant to finance a Youth Livelihood Program projects.

The suspects are Moses Ewuc, the chairperson of Abapiri Youth produce buying and sellers Association and Sam Lukori, the Association secretary in Chawente Sub County.

They are alleged to have failed to account for 4 million shillings out of the eight million shillings which they received in the financial year of 2019/2020.

Allan Aboce, Kwania District YLP focal point person says the duo allegedly forged members’ signatures and withdrew part of the money from the group bank account.
