Six Killed in Jinja-Iganga Highway Crash

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at Kakira at 5:00 am, when the taxi collided with the sugarcane truck, which had been parked on the side of the road.

Six people have been killed and eight injured in a road crash along the Jinja-Iganga Highway. The accident involved a taxi registration number UBP 574J from Namisindwa and a Fuso truck UAF 333B. 

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at Kakira at 5:00 am, when the taxi collided with a stationary sugarcane truck.  The truck had been parked by the roadside in Kakira due to a mechanical issue.

Some of the deceased have been identified as Beatrice Namutosi, Asuman Mulungo, Mary Naigaga, John Wangolo and Godfrey Kabaale, councilors of Weswa and Manafwa town council respectively.  

Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, confirmed the incident but stated that the identities of the injured who are admitted at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital are yet to be established. He also said the police are investigating the cause of the accident.
