Six Remanded in Ngora for Murder of Herdsman

It is alleged that the suspects allegedly murdered Fredrick Okurut, 40, a resident of Agu Village in Ngora Sub County, Ngora District on May 12th, 2020.

Six people in Ngora district have been remanded to Soroti Prison on charges of murder.

The suspects are Charles Ogire 33, a teacher in Agu Primary School, Sam Ejoku 58, William Isodo 32, Julius Ateriak 33, Phillip Opio 22 and George Orido 43.

It is alleged that the suspects murdered Fredrick Okurut, 40, a resident of Agu Village in Ngora Sub County, Ngora District on May 12th, 2020.

According to the prosecution, Okurut, a herdsman in Kokong Village in Kapir Sub County, was grazing at Ocun swamp when the suspects persuaded him to accompany them for a drink.

After intoxicating him with alcohol, the group reportedly used sharp objects to attack him, killing him instantly. The suspects allegedly also dumped his body into Agu water.

Adesederio Otukei, the brother to the deceased says they reported to the police a case of missing person two days after failing to trace the whereabouts of Okurut. He explains that while searching for him, a fisherman found Okurut’s body floating on the water.

The accused persons were remanded until June 11th by the Soroti Grade One Magistrate Jane Tidagonzeka.
