A Uganda People’s Defence
Forces-UPDF soldier in Tororo district is in trouble for misusing his
firearm and indiscriminate shooting. Geoffrey
Lubanga Kenneth, a member of
the Royal guards attached to the Tieng Adhola’s palace in
Tororo Municipality
is locked up at Rubongi military barracks.
He
was arrested on Monday following a shooting spree in Amagoro village. Edrine Mawanda, the UPDF 3rd
Division Spokesperson, says that a combined team comprising the police and army
picked up Lubanga after receiving reports about his
conduct.
According to Mawanda, the soldier picked a firearm from the barracks
and opened fire indiscriminately following a misunderstanding with his friend.

Eyewitnesses say that the soldier developed a misunderstanding with a
pork seller whom he was forcing to buy maize flour, which he had stolen from the palace. Residents say this is
not the first time, soldiers guarding Tieng Adhola’s palace are misbehaving and want them withdrawn and replaced by others.
However, Richard Josel Obbo, the Prime Minister of Tieng Adhola, says that there is no need for
panic because it is issue of personal misconduct.
