Aggrieved teachers who have
missed salary payment for the months of May and June on 23rd June
2022 stormed the office of Soroti Chief Administrative Officer to seek an
explanation.
The dissatisfied teachers
say they
are giving the Soroti Chief Administrative Officer up to Monday 25th
June 2022 to effect their salary payment or he will see their action.
Teachers numbering over 40 yesterday camped at Soroti District headquarters to seek an explanation why they have not been paid their salaries for May and June of 2022.
Abraham Ekwaru, the Soroti
District Information officer told our reporter that salary
variations caused the delay in the payment of the affected Soroti Secondary teachers. He did not elaborate.
Ekwaru said that the
Soroti Chief Administrative Officer, Agrey Muranira met the teachers and explained to them the
cause of the delay in payments.
The teachers claim that it is only Soroti
district that has not paid the secondary school teachers salaries of May and
June and yet the neighboring districts of Amuria, Serere and Katakwi have paid
their teachers’ salaries of May and June.
The Soroti
Chief Administrative Officer though tried to explain to them that the problem was not
his own making but from the ministry of finance that has caused the problem of delayed payments.
//Cue in: “We are secondary……….. //
Cue Out:…. ministry of finance,”//
The teachers say that given the current rising commodity prices life is hard and
to make matters worse their own children have been sent away from school over school fees non-payment and they are expected
to use their salaries to pay the fees.
