South Africa beat Uganda ending its hopes of qualifying for the Netball World Cup semi-finals.

Uganda lost 40 against South Africa’s 67.

In the first thirty minutes, the She Cranes put up a spirited fight by keeping the goal difference 8 goals in both the first and second quarter.

The combination of Stella Oyella in goal attack and Peace Proscovia as goal scorer kept Uganda in the game, with hope of closing the gap.

Three minutes into the third quarter, Uganda had scored three goals while their opponents had not scored any.

When South Africa hit the 40 goal mark, Uganda was 8 goals behind.

However,  Lenize Potgieter and captain Bongi Msomi and the entire team piled pressure on the Ugandan side by tight marking Oyella, intercepting several balls and increasing the lead to 46-33 in the third quarter and 67:40 at full-time.

Lenize, player of the match, lauded her teammates for putting up a great performance against Uganda.

South Africa's head coach, Norma Plummer says that her team was aware of the "tough turf" and also taking game by game.

Though Uganda had an edge over the Proteas with long passes, their opponents used quick runs and fast hands to not only increase the pace of the game but to also score more goals.

Oyella missed a ball when it slipped out of her hands at the goal post in the third quarter.

Oyella and Proscovia also missed a ball that hit the goal post in the last 7 minutes of the first quarter.

Also, several other missed chances and errors including wrong footwork cost Uganda over ten goals which could have resulted in a win or draw.

It was also surprising that Mary Nuba who substituted Proscovia played under seven minutes in this game.

Following the win against Uganda, South Africa alongside England from Group G and then Australia and New Zealand have qualified for the semi-finals while the rest of the remaining 8 teams including Uganda will compete for the 5th to 12th best teams.

South Africa will play against England on Thursday to determine the winner for Group G.

Lenize says that her team hopes to beat England, with the ultimate aim of winning the World Cup.

The Netball World Cup is taking place in Liverpool, United Kingdom. It started last Friday and ends on Sunday.
