South Sudan authorities have recommitted to
intensifying security and enhancing safety along its borders with Uganda.
Joseph Kolong, the Commissioner of Ikotos County
said they would ensure security deployment is enhanced and peace along the
borders is maintained.
Kolong said on Saturday evening during the
handover of a vehicle belonging to Padibe Market Vendors in Lamwo district to
the Ugandan authorities from the Ikotos County bordering Uganda and South
Sudan.

747T was in August this year abandoned by suspected people who had ambushed, shot and killed a South Sudanese trader in the area while transporting his goods to
South Sudan.
The truck was donated by President Yoweri Museveni last year to the Vendors in Padibe Market but had been hired out to the
South Sudan trader at the time of the attack.
A few weeks ago, it was later recovered by South
Sudan security and parked at Ikotos Police Station.
Kolong noted that it is the role of both
countries to ensure that peace along the borders is maintained.
The handover was officiated by General Majak
Akec Malok, the Inspector of General of Police South Sudan.
General Malok also maintained that the security
forces in the two countries need to ensure that deployment along the borders is
beefed up to prevent attacks by unknown people.
The Lamwo Resident District Commissioner,
Geoffrey Osborn Oceng had last week written to General Majak Akec Malok, the
Inspector of General of Police South Sudan requesting that the truck be handed
over to them.

Oceng pledged
that they would work together with their counterparts across the border to ensure
peace between the two countries, especially along the borders.
He told URN later that the vehicle will be handed over to the vendors but cautioned that they
should avoid going to areas termed deadly so that they do not suffer attacks.
