The select committee investigating the sale of public school heard today that State House and Ministry of Lands officials solicited bribes from Dr. Tamale Ssali to help him process the title of the former Kitante primary school land.

The renowned city gynecologist, who didn\'t give any names, said the officials frustrated his quest to get the 5-acre piece of land, which previously belonged to the school.

In October 2005, President Yoweri Museveni wrote to Ministry of Lands to allocate the said land to Dr. Ssali to build an in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) hospital.

On January 28, 2008, Prof. Ssemakula Kiwanuka, the then Finance State Minister wrote to Ministry of Lands noting that Dr. Ssali had been frustrated by a number of government institutions in his quest to purchase the land.

Dr. Ssali told the legislators today that his efforts to purchase the land almost hit a dead end after some officials within Ministry of Lands asked him to first give them bribes in order to have full access to the land.

Dr. Ssali further revealed that some officials within State House also formed a company to dupe the President to give them 3 of the 5 acres allocated to him. This was later discovered and the process stopped.

The committee Chairman Robert Migadde Ndugwa has asked Dr. Ssali to furnish the committee with the details of the officials involved in the bribery claims.
