The State has asked the court for more time to complete investigations into the charges against five National Unity Platform-NUP members in Kasese District.  The state is also seeking to amend the charge sheet arguing that there are additional grounds to pin the suspects to the crime.

The suspects Bryan Basisa, the NUP Kasese District Chairperson, Geoffrey Bwambale, the NUP coordinator for Bundibugyo, Atanazio Isande from Ntoroko District, Isaac Mumbere-the former NUP candidate for Nyamwamba Division in Kasese and Oniz Kule, a Boda Boda rider from Hima Town were arrested two weeks ago from Kilembe quarters where they were reportedly conducting a meeting, according to police.

On Tuesday court rejected their bail applications on grounds that State Attorney Geoffrey Owundo who is assigned to the case was absent.

On Thursday, Owundo informed the court that there were still ongoing investigations and needed time to amend the charge sheet with additional charges.

The suspects’ lawyer Emmanuel Kironde challenged the delays and asked the court to allow the suspects to get bail since they had presented substantial sureties.

Justice Jude Muwone allowed the state to proceed with investigations and further remanded the accused to Mubuku government prison until December 1 when they will again appear in court.

Kikomeko questions the new offense the state wants to present before the court after spending more than two weeks on the investigation.

Kikomeko added that we will table in a new bail application and he is hopeful it will be granted given the grounds they presented on Tuesday.
