A sub county speaker in Ntungamo district has been arrested over allegations of defiling his 10-year-old daughter.

Theodore Asiimwe, the Rubaare sub county speaker, was on Wednesday remanded by Ntungamo magistrate's court following his arrest from his home in Kikagate village Nyanga parish Rubaare Sub County on Saturday February 17.

Court heard that Asiimwe took advantage of his wife's absence from home and gave her daughter ten thousand Uganda shillings for her to buy a piece of bread which she would eat from school but followed her and defiled her near the family's pit  latrine as she went away.

According to police, the girl told her mother and police that this was the 8th time she was being defiled by her father who would give her money and threaten her not to tell anyone.

Ntungamo Grade One Nasur Magomu could not allow Asiimwe, who was charged with aggravated defilement, to take any plea citing lack of jurisdiction to try the capital offence. Magomu remanded the speaker to Ntungamo central prison till April 18 when he will reappear in court for mention of his case awaiting committal to high court.
